Liga ng mga Barangay-Kalookan and Mayor Recom Echeverri Supports CARPER

The powerful Liga ng mga Barangay ng Caloocan strongly supported the farmers’ cause for the immediate enactment of House Bill 4077 and Senate Bill 2666 during a General Assembly of the Punong Barangays held at the Bulwagang Katipunan in the Caloocan City Hall. Further, Rico Judge “RJ” Echiverri, the current National President of the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas, led the issuance of “Liga ng mga Barangay ng Caloocan Resolution Calling for CARP Extension with Reforms” wherein all the 104 Punong Barangays of Caloocan present at the assembly signed and openly supported the farmers.
Nograles Commits to Enact CARPER on or before June 5
Friday, April 3, 2009“We will ensure a “Win-win Resolution” that will be acceptable to members of the House of Representative, Senate and to you (referring to the Bishops),” said House Speaker Prospero Nograles in a lunch meeting before 8 Catholic Bishops led by Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo, Representatives Risa Hontiveros (AKBAYAN), Edcel Lagman (Albay), Rufus Rodriguez (Cagayan de Oro), Rodolfo Albano III (Isabela), Liwayway Vinzons-Chato (Camarines Norte), Reylina Nicolas (Bulacan), Ma. Amelita Villarosa (Mindoro Occidental), Michael John Duavit (Rizal), Robert Raymund Estrella (ABONO), Alejandro Marañon (Negros Occidental), Conrado Estrella (Pangasinan), Jeffrey Ferrer (Negros Occidental), Andres Salvacion (Northern Leyte), Mat Defensor (Iloilo), DAR officials, representatives from civil society groups Christian Monsod and Gerry Bulatao, and representatives from farmer groups.
Congress, Senate Agrees on CARPER Amendments
Wednesday, April 1, 2009Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile met with some members of the House of Representatives in the CARP Ad Hoc Committee namely, Cong. Risa Hontiveros, Cong. Eleazar Bulut, Cong. Mat Defensor, Cong. Pablo Garcia, Cong. Edcel Lagman, Cong. Luis Villafuerte, and Cong. Ronaldo Zamora, together with Sen. Gringo Honasan and some officials from the DAR, to discuss the enactment of a law to extend the budgetary allotment for and to reform CARP. The agreements made during the said meeting are stated below.
